Wales and SC21

SC21On the 14th October 2008 Aerospace Wales held an SC21 Half day Senior Management Seminar at the General Dynamics - UK facility in Newbridge, South Wales. The event was well attended with 40 participants representing 30 companies. The seminar opened with a tour of the recently established EDGE facility.

This facility is a world-class, collaborative innovation and technology centre, dedicated to accelerating and integrating technology and provides the physical and virtual space for collaboration projects between industry academia and the MOD, representing new and emerging technologies and capabilities that will enhance the combat effectiveness.  After the tour, the Forum CEO, John Whalley, introduced the programme which was then presented by Phil Curnock the SC21 programme SC21 Senior Management Seminarmanger, Norman Thompson from Airbus explaining the importance of SC21 in the Airbus supply chain development programme. Next on the programme was an extremely interesting storybook presented by from Chris Wixcey from TT electronics-ims who ably described how his company had become engaged with the SC21 programme, the journey to date and how being involved with the programme was improving the overall performance of the company.

The Steering Group is now planning to invite all the interested Welsh aerospace and defence companies to engage with their relevant Strategic Partner  to form collaborative groups thus assisting one another in business development and also with their CSIP (Continual Sustainable Improvement Plan).

The programme in Wales will adapt a combination of toolsets and approaches to reflect current best practice.  Because of important cross border supply chain relationships the Forum is working closely with its regional partners the Northwest Aerospace Alliance and the West of England Aerospace Forum.
