250 Barclaycard jobs come to Cardiff
Barclaycard are creating around 250 financial services jobs in Cardiff. The jobs will be based in Pentwyn, Cardiff, where Barclaycard already has a lending arm called Firstplus.
The announcement has been hailed by the Welsh Assembly Government’s First Minister, Carwyn Jones, as a “big vote of confidence for Wales.”
The new jobs will be in a division called Barclays Partner Finance, which provides personal loans via third party retailers. Two areas that the company will be specialising in are retail and motor finance along with a number of other ‘point of sale’ areas such as home improvement.
Professor Patrick Minford of Cardiff Business School said, “Cardiff is a good place for the finance and insurance sectors, particularly their back offices.
“It is probable more companies will follow suit as Cardiff’s presence on the radar grows in the finance industry.”
The company has started recruiting for the posts, which will include management trainees and customer loan advisors. All 254 jobs are expected to be in place by the end of the summer.
