Fibre optic specialist further strengthens North Wales
Fibre optic network specialist i3 Group launched its state-of-the-art training and distribution centre in North Wales this summer. The Haydock-based firm has invested more than £2m in the purpose-built Worldwide Distribution Centre (WDC) at Colwyn Bay’s Mochdre Commerce Parc.
The company has created 50 new jobs at the WDC and intends to continue its expansion with a further 50 in the coming year.
Welsh Assembly Government Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones officially opened the centre saying: "I am delighted to welcome an investment which will bring valuable new jobs and skills to this area in a sector which is vital for the future development of the Welsh economy.
"This development, by a pioneering and fast growing company, will be an important addition to the fibre optic cluster of capabilities and enterprises which is already one of the economic strengths of North Wales."
Elfed Thomas, CEO of i3 Group, said: "This development is an important part of our long term growth strategy and, having grown up in North Wales, I am pleased to be investing back into the economic future of the area."
"The move gives us world-class production and training facilities, for both our engineers and our international partners, and will ensure our ability to service each of the Group's divisions and the network builds already underway."
Businesses, local councils, hospital and universities are already benefiting from the superfast connectivity afforded by the improved network.
