Highly-qualified workforce draws mobile TV firm to Swansea
A company specialising in bringing live TV to your mobile phone has set up its headquarters in Swansea where it plans to create more than 20 hi-tech jobs.
Yamgo has moved into the Technium Digital at Swansea University, where it will be developing pioneering next-generation technology for streaming television on mobiles.
With support provided by the Welsh Assembly Government through the Single Investment Fund, the company plans to create 23 high quality jobs over the next two years.
Yamgo’s founder, Ian Mullins, is a graduate of Swansea University and a former winner of the Technium Challenge business planning competition.
Mr Mullins said: “Swansea has a number of highly-qualified people working in hi-tech industries who have the right mix of skills that Yamgo is going to need as it expands.
“Add on to that the outward- looking nature of Swansea University and the willingness of the Welsh Assembly Government to help fund cutting-edge research and development and moving to Swansea made obvious sense. And from my time here as a student, I know that it is a great place to live and work!”
Yamgo provides mobile applications, free-to-view TV, content licensing and advertising to clients from Greenpeace TV to Guitarist TV.
Content providers can use Yamgo to manage, distribute and make money from their live TV streams, webcams and video clips through mobile networks worldwide. Mobile phone users around the globe can receive the Yamgo service without the need to download any proprietary software.
