Welsh college first in UK to deliver Open University Foundation Degree in Financial Services
Neath Port Talbot College will be the first college in the UK to deliver a Foundation Degree award in Financial Services in partnership with The Open University.
Principal of Neath Port Talbot College, Mark Dacey said:
“Neath Port Talbot College is delighted to be at the forefront of developing financial services skills in Wales and taking advantage of the excellent opportunities afforded by the Open University.”
The course is designed to provide a broad and deep understanding of the knowledge skills needed for a career in the financial services industry. Topics will include financial planning, portfolio management, investment techniques, concepts of risk and uncertainty along with wider considerations such as environments, markets and processes.
Ian Fribbance, Senior Lecturer in Economics at The Open University, who has led the development of the Foundation Degree, said:
“This model of collaborative teaching is a new way of working for us. It opens up the qualification to a whole new set of students and it is exciting to see new partners come on board and help us reach out to those working in this crucial sector.
“With the current increased emphasis on regulation and training, there has never been a more crucial time to launch a qualification like this. We already have students enrolled for the new qualifications and financial services employers are showing interest.”
