Welsh university to help restore confidence in the banking system
Bangor Business School, part of Bangor University, is offering a suite of three workshops to help the global banking industry steer clear of another financial meltdown. The school is rated Number 1 in the UK for its expertise in accountancy, finance and banking.
Designed by Professor Gardner, the three workshops will aim to equip banks’ top management and non executive directors with a greater detailed understanding of the businesses in which they operate and prevent a repeat of the terrible mistakes which collectively lost the banks tens of billions of pounds.
One of the courses deals with questions such as how could a profitable and successful global industry go so wrong, so quickly. It also covers flaws in the system. The other two courses cover senior executive leadership and global trends in international banking.
Professor Gardner, chief executive of The Management Centre at Bangor Business School is one of the world’s leading banking training consultants commented: “The issue of senior level board member training is crucial and is something we have addressed with this suite of three new courses.
“The courses cover some of the things board directors and non execs desperately need to know if they are going to take on risk assessment going forward.”
He added that he believed improved training for this group of people should be a monitorable, regulatory requirement for the banking industry which is not the case at present.
