Continued support for leading clean technology pioneers
International Business Wales is sponsoring a category in the 2010 New Energy Awards, building its support for the competition in previous years.
The New Energy Awards recognises and rewards the latest and most significant developments in the clean technology sector. The awards cover a broad spectrum of business, including all of the major environmental science technologies – from renewable energy, to smart metering, monitoring equipment and manufacturers.
Through its sponsorship of the University Spin-Out of the Year Award, International Business Wales will be highlighting some of the most successful UK projects to make the transition from research to commercialisation in 2009.
Nominees in all categories are still to be announced, but the 2009 ceremony, also sponsored by International Business Wales, attracted over 400 delegates from companies with an interest in clean technology, ranging from renewable energy specialists such as Solar Century, npower renewables and Marine Current Turbines, to multinationals including JPMorgan, Virgin Green Fund and M&S.
And the 2010 awards are set to be even bigger.
“Wales is already known as a leading location for both researchers and businesses in the clean technology sector,” said Helen Donovan, Sector Lead with Sustainable Technologies at International Business Wales.
“Many major renewables companies have bases or headquarters here. World-class wind and tidal energy farms are both established and in the planning stages in Wales, and a track record of academic research and commercial partnerships that is the envy of the world.
“Our support for The New Energy Awards, we hope, will promote the expertise and appeal of Wales to an even broader audience, to keep up this momentum.”
