Trip leads to Nova Scotia contract

Having clients based in Halifax is no big deal for a UK company. Unless, of course, the Halifax in question is the capital city of Nova Scotia.

Andrew Owen of Genesis Marketing, who played a key role in co-ordinating last year’s mission, has just announced winning a three-year ‘call off contract’ with NSBI (Nova Scotia Business Inc.), the State’s trade and inward investment agency – a major breakthrough for the Cardiff-based business, and one that also promises to open up new links for Welsh companies into Nova Scotia.

“This all came about as a result of a follow up mission to Nova Scotia by myself and a number of other W80 companies,” says Andrew. “Contacts were made, followed by another trip to Halifax and a meeting with NSBI – an organisation keen to foster business relationships with Welsh companies.

“This contract offers the potential for us to promote collaborative ventures in Wales and Canada where both sides benefit.”

Nova Scotia, for those of you who haven’t had business dealings with the region, has a population of just short of one million and the second most densely populated Canadian state. Until recently, the economy depended heavily upon its rich natural resources – notably mining, forestry, agriculture and fishing – but these days new economy sectors such as IT, creative media, defence & security, life sciences, energy and finance are to the fore.

Notably, Nova Scotia plays a key role in The Atlantic Alliance - a cluster of highly qualified aerospace and defence contractors working together on Canada’s east coast.

“This is a part of the world that is really forward looking – and one that has never forgotten its Celtic roots,” says Andrew. “And if any company is interested in doing business there, or making contacts, I would be pleased to help.”
