Background / Market
Singapore is the UK’s largest trading partner in South-East Asia and one of its largest export markets outside Europe. Ranked number-one globally by the World Bank in it’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ report, Singapore constitutes an ideal springboard to South-East Asia. There is a pro-business approach to the local economy, and the government is very supportive of the needs of the local business community. Its charter is to transform Singapore into a “high value-added knowledge-based economy.
Opportunities
There are opportunities for Welsh companies in almost all commercial sectors, in particular: Advanced Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Education and training and ICT. As a result International Business Wales are taking a Multi sector Trade Mission to Singapore in April 2010.
Cost
The cost of the Mission, net of an International Business Wales 50% discount towards travel and accommodation for eligible Welsh companies, is £690. The price includes return airfares, 5 nights accommodation with breakfast at the Swissotel Merchant Court Hotel, in-market and pre-mission briefing in Wales. This offer is available to one participant per eligible Wales based company.

It is important to recognise that the resources and effort which go into arranging these activities and the financial support offered to participating companies are, in reality, a direct investment by the Welsh Assembly Government into Welsh companies. It is essential therefore, that through International Business Wales, the Assembly ensures that it invests wisely. Therefore, all participating companies need to demonstrate a clear commitment to maximising opportunities, either in terms of identifying and securing business, or in exploring market potential.
